About The Education Program of the Research School of Earth Sciences

The Research School of Earth Sciences provides an outstanding undergraduate program, with access to facilities and opportunities no other university in Australia can offer. Our location in Canberra puts us in a unique position for collaboration with government departments such as Geoscience Australia and the Bureau of Rural Sciences.

ANU geosciences plays a strong role in National Initiatives both on the continent and in marine geosciences. RSES hosts components of the AuScope initiative for understanding the Structure and Evolution of the Australian Continent, and also the Australian Office for the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program, carrying out deep scientific coring around the world's oceans . These institutions provide the teaching program with opportunities to intereact with the scientific commumity on an international level.

Contributions to the teaching program come from within the ANU, industry, and specialized government departments, providing the program with a broad educational experience in the earth, marine and environmental sciences. Our aim is to provide a substantial foundation with a view of entering into a professional qualification, or engage in higher degree research. We are one of the few institutions in the country whos programme is recongnized by the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM).
